Well, it’s official: I have returned home! It’s been weird, but also surprisingly normal, to be back. Among the things I have learned through my travels back is that I do not recommend traveling with multiple checked bags – especially if their combined weights adds up to more than yours.
However, I did manage to successfully return with all of my things! I loved seeing my dog S’mores again, my family’s beautiful piano, my puzzle, and my family, too. I also loved all the green! I loved NYC, but I’d say one of the few things NYC lacks is much extensive green space. My family’s new house has a beautiful backyard, complete with a pond, mini woods, and gardens my parents have been beautifully extending and refurbishing – and that was truly refreshing to see and be in.
As a little mini celebration of my return, my parents took me out to eat at Patisserie 46 in Minneapolis, MN. If you’ve never had the pleasure of eating here before, I highly recommend it. My mother discovered it several years ago when she noticed that it was listed as one of the best patisseries in the world (alongside several from Paris, etc.), and that it happened to be only about 30 minutes away from us.
Basically, Patisserie 46 has it all. Their coffee and tea are fantastic – I especially recommend the café miel and the lavender latte. If you’d like some brunch fare they have excellent quiche and sandwiches – including a great caprese one. Their croissants and pastries are also fantastic. I’m always a fan of a good almond croissant, but they also have some more unique offerings, such as the brioche bostock, which has almond cream and is soaked in orange blossom water. Finally, their desserts are utterly incredible – and beautiful to boot! I had a delicious dessert with strawberry rhubarb filling and a basil mascarpone topping several years ago, which helped to encourage my obsession with all things basil (in case you’re wondering, strawberry and basil are an excellent combination in my opinion!). On this occasion, I went for a delicious little concoction of pineapple compote, coconut mousse, and vanilla mascarpone. Exquisite flavor, alongside a beautiful presentation, which is the Patisserie 46 standard.
Post-NY, and a lot of pretty delicious but unhealthy eating, I’m feeling the need for a cleanse. But we’ll let that wait until after summer/vacation ends I think….
