A Weekend in Poland!

11/15/19 | Uncategorized

A weekend in Amsterdam, a weekend in Poland... the ease of international travel here in Europe is really quite fun! This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit Poland, and better yet, to visit a friend from Luther in Poland! I think visiting people is one of the best places to travel and see different places - not only because it's thrifty (I have yet to pay for a hotel/place to stay - ...

Bonn: A Pastry-Lover’s Review

11/07/19 | Bakeries, Food, Germany, Travel

Now that I have been in Bonn for a little over two months, I think it's about time to dedicate a blog post entirely to food. Ooh, this will be so much fun! As most of you know, I have quite the sweet tooth, and love cakes, pastries, and essentially all desserts! Germany, land of afternoon Kaffee and Kuchen (cake) and bread-lover's paradise, is therefore quite the tempting wonderland for me. In ...

Weekend Adventures!

10/29/19 | Bakeries, Food, Germany, Travel

With the semester in full swing, the pace is definitely picking up for my life here in Bonn! Alongside that, though, I've managed to squeeze in some wonderful adventures - both with great friends - these last two weekends! Stop #1: Freiburg Am vorletzten Wochenende (on the weekend before last - less of a mouthful in German, I think), I went to visit Isi (my family's former German exchange ...

Germany: Prioritizing Community

10/20/19 | Adjusting to Germany, Food, Germany

When people think “Germans,” I’m not exactly sure what they think - perhaps they’re picturing bread and Leberwurst, World War II scenes, or imagining the sound of the German language. Whatever they’re hearing or picturing, I don’t think they usually think “social!” right away; but based on my experience thus far, they perhaps should.  During this last month in Germany, I have experienced ...

Leben in Bonn (Life in Bonn!)

10/11/19 | Adjusting to Germany, Germany

I have officially been living in Bonn for over a month now! So many things still feel so new, i's hard to believe, but I am beginning to settle in. Accordingly, it seems about the right time for a post about my daily life in Bonn! So far, I'm a big fan of Bonn. It's a nice city - not to big, not too small - with a lovely city center, nice hiking trails not far away, and a beautiful walkway ...

Oktoberfest in München!

10/04/19 | Food, Germany, Travel

This past weekend I enjoyed the full Oktoberfest experience in Munich, Germany! Munich (or München) was the birthplace of Oktoberfest, which began in 1810 with the marriage of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese on October 12th. Obviously, things have evolved a bit since then, and today Oktoberfest is a 16-to-18-day affair attended by more than six million people from around the world - this year ...

Hi there!

Looking for me? I am most likely to be found curled up with a good book, working on a puzzle, out on the trails for a run, in a practice room working on scales, in the lab working on my latest research project, in the kitchen concocting some new creation, or any place where there is food with lavender or basil.
